Man Struck, Killed By Freight Train In Delaware
NEWARK, Del. (CBS) – Police are investigating the death of a Delaware man who was struck by a train late Thursday evening.
The incident occurred at about 10:40 p.m. as troopers were called to the CSX rail tracks located behind the 100 block of Madison Drive in Newark for the report of a male being struck by a CSX train.
Investigators say that the train's conductor and engineer both observed the male lying on the tracks, but they were unable to stop the 52 car freight train in time to avoid striking the victim.
The victim has been identified as a 39-year-old male from Newark. The victim's name is being withheld at this time.
His body has been turned over to the medical examiners office to determine the exact cause of death.
The deadly incident remains under investigation.
