Police: Innocent Bystander Shot In Forehead While Sitting On Porch In Fairhill

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are investigating after a man was shot while sitting on his porch and placed in critical condition Wednesday night in Fairhill.

Authorities say the incident took place around 8:50 p.m. in the 200 block of E. Indiana Avenue.

There, they say a 45-year-old man was shot once in the forehead before being transported to Temple University Hospital.

"The victim and the family member both ducked down and that's when the family member, who is a witness, realized that the victim was struck in the head and was completely unresponsive," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small. "We don't know whether or not this victim was an intended target or just an innocent bystander struck by stray gunfire."

Police found 16 shell casings from two separate weapons in the park across the street, which is about 300 feet away from where the victim was shot in the head.

"It appears that the shooter or shooters were standing next to each other when they fired the shots," Small said.

The man remains in critical condition at this time.
