PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia police say a man apparently responding to a Craigslist ad was shot dead in the West Oak Lane section of the city late Friday night.
The incident happened around 11 p.m. near the intersection of Walnut Lane and Hollis Street.
Police say 27-year-old Daniel Cook and two others traveled from New Jersey and met someone at that location who was selling an ATV on Craigslist. Authorities say Cook walked down the street to look at the four-wheeler while the two people he was with stayed in his car.
The two witnesses tell investigators they lost site of Cook, and a short time later they heard two gunshots. Police arrived to find Cook lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the left side of his face. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Bang, bang I'm like oh, my gosh, somebody got shot," a neighbor who didn't want to be identified said.
She said she overheard the conversation of the two people after the shooting:
"Then I heard two men arguing about money,a check and who signed the check and you owe me money and such and such and I'm like, Oh my God, o my gosh, something happened. Then I hear the police man come. They were out here for about three hours."
Police are reviewing surveillance video from a nearby corner store and sources say they have identified a person of interest.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
