Man Shot By Police After Gunfire Exchange Near Temple Campus

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A car crash near Temple University's campus led to gunshots early Tuesday morning. Police were forced to shoot one of the men involved.
Temple University campus police were on bike patrol around 2 a.m. when they heard a car crash, and minutes later gunfire. They immediately called for back-up from Philadelphia police.
As both city and campus police arrived on the scene near 9th and Norris streets, the gunman fired at the officers. Philadelphia police returned fire and shot the gunman in the leg.
The suspect, whose name and age were not immediately released, was being treated at Temple University Hospital. He was listed in stable condition.
The suspect is facing weapons and assault charges.
Police said they recovered the suspect's gun.
No one else was hurt in the incident.
