Man Sentenced In Fatal DUI Crash In North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A 54-year-old father and family man was sentenced on Friday to five to ten years in prison for a horrific drunk driving crash in North Philadelphia that killed a man and threatened the lives of nearly a dozen people in early 2012.
The defense admitted to a longstanding problem with drugs and alcohol.
Prosecutor Gwenn Cujdik says defendant Leroy Johnson was drunk when he made a reckless U-turn on Broad Street near Erie, and crashed into a car full of women and children, sending that car out of control and into two pedestrians -- an engaged couple -- and then a parked car with two more people inside.
42-year-old Kevin Whye was killed and his fiance was critically injured. She faces a lifetime of physical and emotional pain. The driver of the other car unfairly suffers the guilt of killing a man. Regina Brown was with her mom.
"My mother was the one driving," Brown says. "She knows it's not her fault, but you know, I was a passenger and right along with her I had to see that man hit the windshield. I had to get out of that car and both of us had to see that man on the ground."
