PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A sentencing hearing was held Friday for a Philadelphia man convicted in a shooting outside a popular Old City nightspot last year that left a New Jersey man dead.
It happened around 1 a.m. on the morning of February 20th, 2011 in the packed Bleu Martini on 2nd Street just below Market Street.
An argument spilled outside, and ended in gunfire. When it was over, two brothers were wounded. One of them, 33-year-old Scoey Potter of Edgewater Park, died a week later. His brother is paralyzed.
James Thompson was convicted of voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, and firearm charges. He was sentenced to serve 17 to 34 years in prison.
According to published reports, the 29-year-old Thompson wept as he apologized to Potter's family.
Defense attorney Charles Peruto Jr. called it a "tragedy for two good families."
