Police: Man Repeatedly Rams Upper Darby Police Car
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A South Philadelphia man is behind bars, charged with repeatedly ramming his pickup into an Upper Darby police cruiser last night.
It happened around 6:30 pm, when Upper Darby police were serving a protection from abuse arrest warrant against William Chestnut of the 300-block of Winton Street in South Philadelphia. Upper Darby Police Superintendent Mike Chitwood says a neighbor identified as James Moore apparently took issue with Chestnut's arrest, got into his pickup with his pit bull in the front seat, and took off after the cops.
Then, Chitwood says, "He chased the police -- I mean, he rammed them all the way from Seventh Street to Broad Street. And when you see the police vehicle, you can see the damage that was caused to it."
Chitwood says at Broad and Oregon, Moore rammed the police car so hard it spun around. He says the officers, fearing for their lives, fired at Moore's pickup. Moore was shot in the hand and his dog was killed. The two officers suffered minor neck and back injuries. Moore was treated and released, and charged with aggravated assault.
