PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police are investigating the shooting death of 63-year-old Aamar Stanley early Monday morning.
The deadly shooting happened at about 4 a.m. in the 2200 block of W. Lehigh Avenue in North Philadelphia.
According to investigators, a group of suspects confronted the victim outside his home. The suspects then followed the victim inside the home, where they shot him three times, twice in the chest and once in the hip.
The victim was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators say the suspects ran out of the house after shooting the victim and remain on the loose.
When friends and family learned of Stanley's death they came to the crime scene to pay their respects.
"He was an honest man selling news papers to make a living," said one of Stanley's neighbors.
Aself Stanley, the son of Aamar, arrived at the scene at about 4:30 p.m., wanting to know why his father was killed and who did it.
"To shoot him three times, that's out of control," said Aself.
Aamar Stanley leaves behind a son and daughter.
Anyone with information is urged to call police.
