Man Gets 7-Year Sentence For Invasion-Robberies of La Salle Students
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to prison for two home-invasion robberies that targeted and terrorized La Salle University students living near campus in September 2010.
The defendant got a break because he cooperated with authorities. His partner in crime is scheduled to be sentenced in February.
Paul Wright was sentenced Monday to seven years in prison. He and co-defendant Levi Rivers robbed one student at gunpoint inside the student's home, then, the next night, the pair held four other students hostage at gunpoint in their home.
During that robbery, Wright took two students to a convenience store to get money from an ATM, but one of the victims tipped a clerk who called police, and both suspects were arrested.
Judge Mitchell Goldberg called the crimes extremely heinous and callous.
"You need to spend some time thinking about what it would be like to be woken up in the middle of the night and have a gun put to you head by a perfect stranger," Judge Goldberg told Wright in court Monday.
Fortunately, none of the victims was physically injured.
