Man Found Guilty Of Assault On Police Officer In Delaware County

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Philadelphia man has been found guilty of assaulting a police officer and other related offenses for a police-involved shooting in Delaware County in September of 2013.
Authorities say it all started with a traffic stop on Chester Pike in Sharon Hill. As an officer asked 32-year old Brandon Schonfeld to step out of his vehicle, Schonfeld hit the officer with the door, before elbowing him and running away. The officer gave chase across three lanes of traffic, and then north on Barker Avenue, where Schonfeld pulled out a gun, and took aim at the officer.
While asking him to drop the weapon, the officer fired a few shots before taking cover and calling for backup. Schonfeld ran towards nearby train tracks, which is where he was found with gunshot wounds to his torso by responding officers. Police also found a black semi-automatic handgun about 15-feet away from where Schonfeld was taken into custody.
A search revealed a small jar of marijuana and 16 small bags of cocaine. In addition to assaulting an officer, Brandon Schonfeld was found guilty of aggravated assault, drug possession with the intent to deliver, and some firearms-related offenses. He now faces up to 87 years in jail at sentencing.
