Man Found Dead Inside Bullet Riddled Minivan Along Highway In Delaware
NEW CASTLE, DEL. (CBS) -- Police are investigating the death of a man who was found inside of a vehicle along with an injured female subject Sunday morning in New Castle, Delaware. Police have identified the man as Shelton Johns, 32. The death has been classified as a homicide by gunshot wounds to the upper body.
The incident happened around 5 a.m. as a passing motorist saw a minivan in a ditch off of the east edge of northbound US Rt. 13, just south of the I-495 northbound on-ramp.
Police say the motorist stopped to help the vehicle and discovered the 32-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman inside the van which was riddled with bullet holes.
Police were called to the scene and Johns was pronounced dead. The injured woman was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
During their initial investigation, troopers were able to locate a second vehicle as well as other physical evidence on northbound I-495 just north of the I-95 northbound split. Detectives were working to determine if the two scenes were related.
Both northbound US Rt. 13 between I-495 and Memorial Drive, as well as northbound I-495 between northbound I-95 and US Rt. 13 were closed for approximately six hours as a result of the investigation. Both roadways have since been reopened.
