PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office has approved murder charges for a man in connection with Friday's discovery of a dismembered body in Strawberry Mansion.
44-year-old Charles Sargent is charged with murder, abuse of a corpse and related offenses, according to the District Attorney's office.
All of this connected with a gruesome discovery Friday afternoon. That's when police found human body parts in an overgrown lot near Sedgely Avenue and York Street in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city. Investigators were led there after finding a pool of blood and bloody tarps less than a mile away in a house in the 2100 block of North 32nd Street.
Neighbors say a foul smell overpowered the area for several days, some saying they thought it was an animal, but it turned out to be human.
Police have yet to identify the victim.
