Man Dressed As Santa Struck And Killed On I-95
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a man dressed in a Santa suit was struck and killed by a DUI driver along I-95 in Philadelphia late Saturday night.
It happened around 10:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes near I-676.
Authorities say 24-year-old Adam Herr of Lebanon, Pennsylvania was walking northbound in the southbound lanes of the highway when he was hit.
Herr was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the driver, identified as 27-year-old Augustine Bangura of Philadelphia, stopped at the scene, but failed a routine sobriety test which state troopers administered after detecting a strong odor of marijuana and noticing his eyes were glassy and bloodshot.
Bangura has been charged with DUI and homicide by motor vehicle.
Police say Bangura was also driving with a suspended license.
It was not immediately known why Herr was walking on I-95.
