PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police internal affairs is investigating what led officers to shoot a man in North Philadelphia early Sunday morning.
It started around 1:45 a.m. when both Philadelphia and Temple University police responded to a report of an armed man near 8th and Thompson Streets.
Temple police were first on the scene. They chased the suspect who allegedly pointed his gun at a Temple officer. The officer fired and missed.
The chase continued to the 1200 block of Franklin and the suspect aimed his weapon at the officer again. Police say before the suspect could shoot, a Philadelphia cop opened fire and shot the man in the neck and shoulder.
The 24-year-old was taken to Hahnemann Hospital in critical condition. A handgun with a destroyed serial number was recovered from the scene.
