Man Convicted In Slaying Outside Pennsylvania Bar
READING, Pa. (AP) — A man is facing life in prison without possibility of parole after being convicted of a shooting death outside an eastern Pennsylvania tavern.
Twenty-five-year-old Jose Reyes-Diaz was convicted Friday in Berks County of first-degree murder and attempted murder in the November 2011 shooting outside A-Town Cafe in Reading.
Twenty-one-year-old Ramon Rosario-Evangelista was killed and two other people were wounded. Officials said the victim was a student at the I-LEAD Charter School who was trying to get his high school diploma.
Assistant District Attorney Dennis Skayhan said Reyes-Diaz "went on a rampage and shot three people who just happened to be there."
Assistant Public Defender Holly Feeney said prosecution witnesses had given contradictory testimony and suggested that the shooting may have been self-defense.
Another man is awaiting trial in the case.
