PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Authorities in Burlington County have filed attempted murder charges against a Clementon man who tried to wrestle a Delanco police officer's handgun from him during a confrontation last month.
Twenty-one-year-old Eugene Taylor is being held by Philadelphia police pending extradition in connection with the May 14th early morning incident in the 400 block of Delaware Avenue in Delanco Township.
Taylor was arrested on a warrant issued by a Burlington County judge following his release from a Philadelphia hospital.
Authorities allege Taylor got into a struggle with Delanco Patrolman Frank Ambrifi in the pre-dawn hours after the officer first tried to calm him down as he was shouting in the street, and then used pepper spray to subdue him.
Investigators say Taylor grabbed for Ambrifi's gun and the officer fired, wounding the man in the chest and side. One of the bullets also hit Ambrifi in the area of his left knee.
