Man Arrested Following Parking Spot Dispute At Philadelphia Premium Outlets
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A dispute outside of a popular outlet mall landed one Montgomery County man in jail.
Eyewitness News caught up with several shocked and surprised shoppers who learned for the first time about the arrest of Waymon Darnell Jones. It's not so much about who he is, but rather what he is accused of doing and where it happened that left shoppers baffled.
Maureen Kulig of Levittown said, "Because of it being a quiet area, I just wouldn't expect that."
Gerry Speece of Schwenksville added, "No, not in Limerick. Yea I'm from Schwenksville, it's very low crime."
Shoppers say they don't normally equate the Philadelphia Premium Outlets in Limerick with crime but just this past Saturday, police arrested the 24-year-old from Limerick for using a gun to threaten a woman over a parking spot.
"People are out of control nowadays," Lori Mahoney of East Coventry said.
Mahoney tells us she was at the mall on Saturday. She didn't see it happen but remembers the lot being half empty.
"And I said to my husband, for being the day after Black Friday, it's empty," Mahoney recalled.
According to police, it all started when Jones pulled into a spot that another driver was going to take. Police say the woman made a comment to Jones and that's when he allegedly opened his jacket to show off his gun. Eyewitnesses told police, Jones said, "You don't want this. Don't act stupid."
Police say the woman drove away and called the police.
Responding officers later found Jones shopping and arrested him. On him, police found a loaded semi-automatic handgun.
The gun was seized and Jones was arrested. He is due in court next month.
