Man Arrested At Airport For Smuggling $300K Of Cocaine Into U.S.
NEWARK, N.J. (CBS) - Officials say a man was arrested for smuggling $300,000 worth of cocaine into Newark Liberty International Airport from Peru.
According to authorities, Customs and Border Protection officers stopped 33-year-old Antonia Miguel Camara Jimenez for a routine baggage exam after a K-9 signaled his luggage.
Police say, after searching the suspects luggage, they found approximately 15 pounds of cocaine inside several purses, bags marked "Santa Catalina oatmeal" and inside false walls of his suitcase.
Authorities report the street value for the drugs is approximately $300,000.
Jimenez, who had travelled to the U.S. from Lima, Peru, was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations. He faces federal narcotics smuggling charges.
