Police: Man Abducted, Shot And Robbed In Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police are continuing their manhunt for several suspects who abducted, robbed and shot a man.
A man told police he was followed by several suspects in a work van just before midnight Sunday. When the man reached St. Bernard Street and Springfield Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia, the male told police that the suspects abducted him from his car and threw him inside the van.
While the suspects drove the male around, police say they beat, robbed and shot him three times. The suspects robbed the man before dropping him off in the 7400 block of Summerdale Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia.
"We know that at least six shots were fired from a large caliber semi-automatic handgun. We found six shell casings on the highway right where the victim collapsed after being shot," Chief Inspector Scott Small explained.
Investigators say the man was taken to a local hospital in an unknown condition.
The van which the suspects were driving reportedly had "Soft Touch Cleaning Service" labeled on the side.
The man initially told police that he was followed from SugarHouse Casino, which later turned out to be false.
SugarHouse Casino officials released the following statement:
"Early reports that a Southwest Philly robbery victim was followed from SugarHouse last night are inaccurate. This incident has no connection to the casino."
Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
