Major Reconstruction Project Begins On Route 202 In Chester County
MALVERN, Pa (CBS) -- Some short term pain will mean long term gain for drivers who use Route 202 in Chester County. A major reconstruction project on a six mile stretch of road between Swedesford Road in Tredyffrin and Route 30 in East Whiteland began on Thursday.
PennDot said crews will take an aging and worn stretch of road and rebuild the highway and expand it to three lanes in each direction.
More than 70-thousand cars a day travel between Swedesford Road and Route 30. But this is more than just a road project for area lawmakers. State Senator Andrew Dinniman said this will act as an economic stimulator for the local economy.
"When it's done...we conservatively estimate ten to twelve thousand new permanent high-wage jobs right here in this region -- now if that isn't good news -- I don't know what is."
They hope this expanded highway will also take commuters off many of the secondary roads throughout the area.
The entire project is expected to be completed in about four years at a cost of about a quarter billion dollars. PennDot hopes to keep travel delays to a minimum throughout the construction.
