Main Line Cabbie Charged With Dealing Drugs To Villanova Students

RADNOR, Pa. (CBS) -- A cab driver from Philadelphia is headed to trial in Delaware County, accused of selling drugs to students from Villanova University.
Radnor police say Leonard Lavender operated a cab for Main Line Taxi Company in the Villanova section of the township, but they also say he was supplementing his income by selling drugs.
According to officials, the 52-year-old McPherson Street man was taken into custody after a two-month investigation.
"He did a word-of-mouth business that went through the campus," says Radnor detective sergeant George Smith, "and those that needed supplies were introduced and he would supply them with whatever they needed."
Smith says Lavender, after being called, would arrive at a preset location where the drug transaction would take place.
Smith says police seized a number of items at the time of his arrest that indicated he was operating a lucrative side business. The charges include possession, and possession with intent to distribute.
No students were arrested.
