Power Restored At Luxury Rittenhouse Square Condo Highrise

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Service has been restored Monday night after hundreds of residents of 10 Rittenhouse, a luxury condo building rising above the Barnes & Noble bookstore at the corner of 18th and Walnut Streets in center city Philadelphia, were forced to find other accommodations this holiday weekend because of an underground power cable failure.
The power outage left the building, overlooking Rittenhouse Square, without power, water, and most of its elevator service. Peco restored service just before 11 p.m. Monday.
Many residents were staying with family or friends or in nearby hotels.
"We stayed somewhere else last night and we'll stay somewhere else tonight but we're hoping it really does come back at 11," said one resident.
(CBS3 Reporter:) "Has it been inconvenient for you?"
"Of course. There's no water, there's no air conditioning, and now I have to take my whole freezer to my friend's," said a resident.
"I have two dogs. It's been a little bit of an inconvenience," said another resident.
Peco says repair crews are working to repair or replace the cable that failed Sunday afternoon. A Peco spokesman says some nearby businesses also are affected.
Peco restored service just before 11 p.m. Monday.
