Loyalty Day Parade Returns To Willow Grove
WILLOW GROVE, PA (CBS) - After a seven-year absence, the Loyalty Day Parade will return to Willow Grove this year to help the Montgomery County community kick-off two months of events to celebrate its 300th birthday.
Parade organizers have been working hard to assemble marching bands, color guards, police and fire units, and floats for the parade which will step off on Route 611 Sunday afternoon, May 1st.
The parade has been on hiatus for seven years according to event organizer Roger Myers.
"We got to the end where we had more people in the parade than we had watching and it was very discouraging. The parade costs a lot of money to run and an awful lot of man hours and it's disappointing to have a reviewing stand and not have a whole lot of people there," Myers said.
Organizers are hoping the tie-in with Willow Grove's Tri-Centennial celebration will bring back the interest in the parade, which is designed to give the community a chance to bond and show their patriotism.
After the parade there will be food, music, and dancing.
