Lower Merion Police K9 Receives New Bullet-Proof Vest
LOWER MERION, Pa. (CBS) -- A Lower Merion Township K9 is now wearing new body armor thanks to a charitable donation. Vested Interest in K9's, a non-profit organization, made it possible for Rookie, a Lower Merion K9, to receive a bullet and stab protective vest.
Rookie, 2, is handled by Officer Jeffrey Seamans.
The vest is sponsored through a fundraiser by the Staten Island Companion Dog Training Club.
The organization aims to provide protective vests, and other items, to K9's across law enforcement. The group was founded in 2009 to help protect dogs across the country. Dogs that have recently joined the force and dogs with expired vests are eligible to receive a vest.
Rookie is Lower Merion's first female K9. She was named after a search and rescue dog that was deployed to the Twin Towers to search for missing people during 9/11.
