Low Voting Turnout In South Jersey For Primary Elections

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, NJ (CBS) -- It's primary election day in New Jersey, although you'd hardly know it if you went to South Jersey polling stations.
Mitt Romney has already locked up the Republican ticket for President. There is not much interest in the four-way race for the GOP bid for US Senate while incumbent Democrat Bob Menendez ran alone. The token opposition facing the region's three incumbent congressmen has also drawn minimal interest.
It's gotten to the point where veteran Logan Township elections judge Helen Swain said she can't even remember the last time there was this little turnout at the polls.
"It's very slow, which we sort of expected but we think we'll make it up in November. We'll be really swamped," Swain said.
The closer races are in North Jersey where two Democrat incumbents are facing each other in a newly merged district. There's also a battle to replace the late Congressman Donald Payne in Newark. Payne's son is among the half-dozen people in that race.
