Love of Schools, Love of Kids Prompts Valentine Delivery to Phila. School Officials

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Opponents of the Philadelphia School District's plan to close 37 more public schools at the end of this school year (see related story) delivered a special Valentine's Day message today to the School Reform Commission.
About a dozen members of the Philadelphia Coalition Advocating for Public Schools ("PCAPS") went on a tour to deliver special Valentine's Day cards to members of the SRC.
"We're going to deliver valentines and ask them to have courage and do the right think, to have a brain, and to not close schools," explains P-CAPS group leader Kia Hinton. She says they were taking a school bus to deliver a 12" x 18" Wizard of Oz-themed card to SRC members Sylvia Simms, Feather Houston, Wendell Pritchett, and Joseph Dworetzky.
"Today is a day of love," Hinton added. "We love our children, we love our city -- which means, don't close schools!"
None of the SRC members were on hand at School District headquarters for the delivery, but Hinton says that commissioners Simms and Ramos have agreed to sit down with PCAPS next week.
