Lottery Reveals Pennsylvania's Newest Multimillionaire; Winning Ticket Sold In Bucks County
FAIRLESS HILLS, Pa. (CBS) -- Pennsylvania's newest millionaire was revealed Friday at the state's lottery headquarters.
Roger Custer, of Levittown, was identified as the winner of the December 5 Powerball drawing.
Lottery Deputy Executive Director for Marketing and Product Development Drew Svitko presented a ceremonial check for $33,134,526.18 to Custer, who was accompanied by his wife, Linda, and several family members.
Custer, holder of the single jackpot-winning ticket from that drawing, purchased the ticket worth $50 million from Levittown News & Tobacco, in Fairless Hills, on his way to go hunting.
"After stopping for supplies for a hunting trip, I purchased two Powerball tickets, a Treasure Hunt ticket and some instant tickets," Custer said. "I won $5 on the instant ticket and gave it to my wife. I kept the Powerball tickets in my wallet during the 5 days I was hunting."
Custer said when he returned from his trip a friend told him the winning ticket was sold nearby.
"I jokingly said, 'I'm the winner.' I went home, handed the ticket to my wife and said, 'Check this and tell me how many millions we've won.'"
His wife checked the ticket and began to cry when she realized it was winner.
Custer said he only told immediate family members, until today when he chose to claim his winnings publicly.
"The best part about winning the Powerball jackpot is being able to take care of my family," said Custer, who is retired. "It's a good feeling to know that my family will never have to worry."
So what does Pennsylvania's newest multimillionaire plan to do with this new found fortune?
"I'll be doing a lot more hunting and fishing, for sure," said Custer.
