Lots Of Last Minute Halloween Shopping Means Lots Of Money For Pop-Up Stores
GARNET VALLEY, Pa. (CBS) -- Halloween on Monday means last-minute shopping for candy and costumes, and a lot of that shopping will be done in stores that will vanish a few days later.
Like a ghost, the Halloween store appears out of nowhere and returns to its earthly grave as soon as All Hallows' Eve is over, taking with it a scary amount of cash.
Sandy was helping daughter find a costume. She'd prefer to make it herself but time got short.
And that's precisely why Halloween Adventure, based in Garnet Valley, is among the area's biggest pop-up retailers, or stores that open temporarily in vacant space. With the closing of Borders and Blockbusters this year, there's plenty of that.
"We take care of their stores. When we leave, they get the stores back in perfect shape. That's the best thing they can do for that center and the people in that neighborhood until they find the right permanent tenant," says Bob Schenk, the president of Halloween Adventure, who calls the situation a win-win.
And then Schenk puts his merchandise back in the crypt…until next time.
