Longtime Treasurer Of Bucks County Gymnastics Club Accused Of Stealing More Than $100K From Organization
BUCKS COUNTY, Pa. (CBS) -- It was an unpleasant surprise for a Bucks County gymnastics club.
A longtime treasurer is accused of stealing.
Therese Foote spent 12 years as the treasurer of her daughter's gymnastics club, an organization she's now accused of cheating out of more than $160,000.
The alleged theft was discovered back in December, after Foote was forced to resign.
That's when her successor discovered a separate bank account and several unauthorized charges.
Parents at the club couldn't believe it.
"I feel bad for the parents and the families that it affected. And also for the owners, because they're wonderful people here," said Megan Bristol, one parent.
"For the gym to lose money…it's really a tragedy, I think," agreed another parent.
With no system of checks and balances in place, court documents show Foote was allowed to make purchases on her own.
The club says she provided treasury reports, but with very few details and never included bank records.
Foote is charged with four felonies, including theft.
She is currently free on $100,000 unsecured bail.
