Long Sentence For Levittown Man In DUI Death Of Off-Duty Philly Cop

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Levittown, Pa. man was sentenced today to 10-20 years in prison, plus an additional 10 years on probation, for the wrong-way DUI crash on Interstate 95 last year that killed a Philadelphia police officer on his way home from his duty shift.
Officer Brian Lorenzo was killed in July 2012 when John Leck Jr. came the wrong way up an I-95 exit ramp and slammed into Lorenzo's motorcycle.
Authorities say Leck had a blood-alcohol level 2½ times the legal limit at the time of the accident. They said he had ignored numerous street signs and red lights just before the horrific crash.
Leck pleaded guilty in October (see related stories).
Prosecutors were asking for 15-30 years for Leck.
This morning, just before sentencing, Leck told a Philadelphia judge that he is not a monster and doesn't have a hurtful bone in his body, but he made the poor decision to drive.
Assistant District Attorney Jacqueline Juliano Coelho said of the sentencing, "The Leck family at least can visit him and can also have some hope that at some point he's going to get out and live some type of life, whereas Officer Lorenzo will never come back."
Officer Lorenzo left behind a wife and three children.
