Long Lines At 30th Street Station As Holiday Travelers Head Home
By Kim Glovas
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- 30th Street Station was buzzing on Sunday evening as travelers headed home after the long holiday weekend.
It took 30-minutes to get across the Vine Street Expressway to the train station. Inside, long lines snaked from every gate. Jackie was waiting near the information desk for his brother, Bob, who is a serious traveler.
"He came from San Francisco to Philadelphia for Thanksgiving," Jackie said. "He went to D.C. on Saturday, he has a daughter in Washington. (He's) going back to San Francisco on Tuesday. He's 80."
Kerry Ruff was loaded down with shopping bags and luggage as he waited for his train back to New York City. He had come to visit family in Glenside.
"I came in Thanksgiving morning because I thought that would be very relaxing traveling," Ruff said, "but in New York the Thanksgiving Day Parade was happening, and then when I got into Philadelphia, the parade was happening, and so it was very exciting."
Nicole Gallo of Collegeville said getting to 30th Street meant strategic planning on how to get to the train station without getting stuck in traffic.
"We avoided the whole Schuylkill (Expressway), all the traffic coming into 30th Street," Gallo said. "When my mom picked me up on Tuesday night it was a nightmare, so we actually did well this time."
Traffic remained congested around 30th Street Station for most of the night with travelers coming and going.
