PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Villanova University is hosting an education symposium that aims to educate people about some of the roadblocks in urban education.
At the symposium there's a panel discussion, as well as different speakers who are addressing the struggles of urban education around the world.
Hezekiah Lewis is an assistant professor at Villanova University.
He led a group of film students to Ghana and to North Philadelphia, to document the similarities of the struggling urban schools.
In Philly, they followed Marcquis, a student at Strawberry Mansion High School.
"He came together and grabbed everyone in their communities to fight to keep their school open," says Lewis.
He says he noticed a very similar struggle going on at a school in Ghana
"[They] grabbed everybody in the school and actually go out and fight to build their school," said Lewis.
He says he hopes people who attend the symposium take away more than just good food and conversation.
"I hope people understand and get a little more educated about some of the struggles we do have in urban education, not only here but across the world," Lewis explains.
