Local Students Attend National College Fair At Convention Center

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Representatives with Colleges and Universities from all over the country packed into the Pennsylvania Convention Center Sunday, as they competed for the time and attention of thousands of local students at a National College Fair.
Many of the prospective students at the fair were looking for majors that they hope will help them get a job right out of school in a variety of fields.
According to studies by the U.S. Department of Education, the number of students choosing humanities majors -- fields such as English or social sciences -- has been in decline for a number of years.
Exhibitors at the fair, like Ray Wilson of Central Michigan University, say they've seen this trend first hand:
"We're seeing a big influx in the health sciences area, but that's what's needed. Students are realizing that you need a lot of healthcare."
The fair didn't just focus on the academic side of college. It also offered student aid work shops and a course on financial literacy -- subjects that are important, but can't be majored in at college.
