Local Student Athletes Among Those Injured In Deadly Incident On Las Vegas Strip

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Some student-athletes from Delaware Valley University in Doylestown were injured in Sunday night's deadly incident on the Las Vegas Strip.

Chief Communications officer Laurie Ward says DelVal's wrestling team is in Las Vegas for Monday's Desert Duals Tournament. She says five students-athletes and their coach, athletics director Steve Cantrell, were walking to the movies when they were hit.

"All six of them were flipped over the top of the car. Fortunately, none of them were seriously injured, and all were released from the hospital."

Ward says despite their injuries, the DelVal wrestlers pitched in to help others who were hurt until rescue crews arrived.

"Coach Cantrell said that our student athletes were amazing, that they had the wherewithal to pull people from the street. They were really helping all the people who had been injured until first responders got there. He was really proud of them."

Because of the incident, the team withdrew from the tournament. They'll return home on Tuesday.
