Local Schoolkids Help Spruce Up A North Philadelphia Neighborhood
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Several storefronts along North Broad Street, in the city's Logan section, are being beautified, thanks to a group of local high school students.
The volunteers are all incoming seniors at Martin Luther King High School, working in the school's "Seeds for Learning" Farm.
Today, they were planting trees and flowers in planters outside selected businesses along North Broad Street as part of the Logan CDC's beautification program.
Teresa Terell, owner of Terry's Hair Design, says the corridor is coming back, and it shows.
"It'll give me curb appeal and invite people into the community," she said today.
But David, one of the student volunteers, says he's doing it for a wider purpose.
"I just want to help change the community -- give us a second chance," he told KYW Newsradio.
