Local Red Cross Volunteers Dispatched To Tornado-Ravaged States
By Cherri Gregg
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania dispatched volunteers to tornado ravaged areas, on Thursday.
"Southeastern Pennsylvania has some of the most sophisticated and most well-trained volunteers in the country."
Local Red Cross CEO Judge Renee Cardwell Hughes says two area volunteers have been selected to help tornado victims deal with the aftermath of the disasters.
"One from Havertown, Joe Cirillo, who's a logistics expert. And Sam Cameron from Hatboro, PA, who's a mental health supervisor."
Cardwell Hughes says Cirillo will help ensure that the environment is secure and Cameron will participate in psychological triage. She says the volunteers received their expert training right here, helping victims deal with disasters that happen each night.
"Three to five times a night, there are fires in our region and the Red Cross responds to everyone."
Cardwell Hughes says more local volunteers could be dispatched in the days to come.
