Local Red Cross Readies Emergency Supplies For Hurricane Relief
By Tim Jimenez
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The American Red Cross is mobilizing in preparation for the arrival of Hurricane Sandy.
At Red Cross headquarters in center city Philadelphia today, workers packed up trucks with water, food, cots, and other necessities.
Southeastern Pennsylvania chapter CEO Renee Cardwell Hughes says they are prepared to care for 26,000 people in the region.
"We now have pre-positioned supplies all across the region, so that at any moment's notice we can set up a shelter," she tells KYW Newsradio.

She also suggests having the Red Cross hurricane app on your smartphone.
"It'll tell you what to do during the hurricane. It will also identify when we open up shelters, where those shelters are placed," she says. The app can be found at redcross.org.
And Hughes stresses that as they are preparing, now is the time for families to get ready with their own supplies and emergency plans to get through what could be a devastating storm.
