PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Third District Police got into the holiday spirit with a party for local elementary school kids.
Area first and second graders celebrated the holidays at the Mummers Museum Wednesday afternoon. Gary Harkins, Community Relations officer with the third district says each year they invite different schools to come and celebrate:
"We have quite a few schools down here. All neighborhood schools, all from in the third police district so each year we'll pick different schools."
He says it takes about six weeks to prepare the party. They get donations and volunteer acts. One of the big hits was the magic show:
"He has Franchesca his assistant, who disappears," he said. "We enjoy giving back to the kids in the neighborhood and just kids in general. It's a priveledge for us guys to do this. We all enjoy it, we have a great time so it's a group effort."
