By Special Contributor Larry Kane
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - During the recent teachers strike in Chicago and throughout the nation, there is a continuing conversation about levels of teacher accountability.
Helen Gimp of Parents United for Education in Philadelphia says that parents see accountability in the light of quality teaching not for pay raises.
"For a parent who's struggling with a classroom situation what we want is accountability right then and there. We want more time and effort for a principal to spend time with teacher in the classroom. We want people to be aware of what's happening within classrooms what are the resources that are there," says Gimp.

The head of the powerful Philadelphia Federation of Teachers, Jerry Jordan, says accountability is important but not just for teachers.
"There needs to be a shared accountability. There needs to be accountability from elected officials who fund education. We have to make sure they are providing what it is that children need and what school districts need for children to do well."
