Local Hospital Earns Bragging Rights For Treating Heart Attack Patients

DOYLESTOWN, Pa (CBS) -- A survey from the federal government shows that Doylestown Hospital in Bucks County is doing an outstanding job of keeping heart attack patients alive.
The hospital has been ranked second in the nation when looking at 30-day heart attack survival rates. John Mitchell Doylestown Hospital's executive director of cardiovascular services says it does so well, because it's small enough that staff members can and do work well together at all levels of care.
"Team work is very important," Mitchell says. "I think the education for physicians and staff, nurses is very important. I think when you bring all that together in a focused effort you can really accomplish some good things."
According to the numbers, Doylestown's 30-day death rate for heart attack patients is 10.4%. Mitchell admits it sounds high, but the national average is more than 15%.
