Local High School Students Win 'World Series Of Birding'

TREDYFFRIN TWP., Pa. (CBS) - A team of local high school students won New Jersey Audubon's "World Series of Birding" this month. This is the first time a so-called youth team has taken home the trophy.
There are those of us who enjoy birds on backyard feeders and there are those who count them for competition.
Friendly competition that is, says Ben Bussman, a graduating senior from Conestoga High School.
"The World Series of Birding is more about fundraising than it is about competition and so in the weeks before the big day all the teams are out to help one another," he says.
Ben and two other high schoolers - Nathaniel Sharp who attends Strath Haven and Austin Smith who attends Great Valley - counted 186 different species during the 24-hours; four more than their closest competition.
The money raised goes toward conservation efforts around the state.
