Local Food Bank Asks For Peanut Butter and Jelly Donations
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A Philadelphia-based organization that feeds the hungry is asking the public to donate jars of peanut butter and jelly in an unusual nod to a February holiday.
Philabundance is asking the community to donate jars of peanut butter and jelly for its "Spread The Love" Valentine's Day campaign.
Marlo Del Sorto is director of marketing and communications at Philabundance. She says PB&J are popular items among food bank recipients but seldom available.
"The issue we have is they rarely get donated by the industry," she explains. "One of the reasons is that they're expensive items. They're items that the community needs but we don't always get them," she adds.
Philabundance is asking that the community go to its Facebook page and hit the "Like" button. For everyone who does that, the Shop Rite supermarket chain will donate a jar of peanut butter or jelly.
And there are other ways to help: go to philabundance.org for more information.
The campaign lasts through Valentine's Day.
