Local Families Worry About Loved Ones In Egypt
Fogelsville, Pa. (CBS) - The crisis in Egypt is affecting families in the Philadelphia area as people become worried about the safety of loved ones in the African nation.
The pictures of the continued uprising in Egypt struck a nerve in Fogelsville, Lehigh County where Sara Kinzel waits for more news on her parents. Methodist ministers Vicky and Larry Brendler were traveling in Israel and Jerusalem and went into Egypt Wednesday with 16 members of their New Jersey church group.
They are now trying desperately to get a flight to Greece while Sara tries to stay calm.
"It comes down to, I just need to have faith they're okay," said Sara.
Sara has stopped watching television, but she holds on to her family and to her phone. Her parents didn't bring their cell phones, so it took her a while to realize they borrowed someone else's to text her Saturday morning.
"I think they probably knew we would be worried and wanted to make sure they got us a message," said Sara.
In Philadelphia, another woman worried about the well-being of her own family. She thinks about her loved ones that lives in Cairo.
Dahlia Osman's father, brother, aunts, and uncles are all there. She finally heard from her brother that they were all safe and she's relieved.
"When they walk in the street they see stuff. Nothing happened to them or nearby them," said Osman.
Sara feels some relief but until her parents are in Greece she will do what they've requested by text - keeping Egypt in mind.
"Pray for us, yes but pray for everyone. Pray for peace," said Sara.
