Local Expert Says It Is Never To Dry To Start Planting Your Garden
By Robin Culverwell
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Spring has sprung early - we know that - but it's also been very dry. So what does that mean for those digging in their garden?
There's a small window of opportunity for planting, says Paul Meyer, so we have to take advantage no matter the conditions.
Meyer is director of the Morris Arboretum and he says even though all these beautiful days might have dried out the top few inches of soil in your garden. You can still put in the plants you love.
"Certainly, we still have to be planting this time of year but what that means is that you still have be sure to water the plant in mulch it to conserve the water. And water it every two or three days."
Meyer says there's no telling if this string of sunny days will turn into a dry hot summer. But one thing's for sure, most gardeners will be up to their elbows in dirt no matter how hot and dry or wet and rainy the weekend weather is this spring.
