Local Congressman Puts Papal Tickets To DC Event Up For A Lottery

By David Madden

WASHINGTON, DC (CBS) - If you can't get enough of Pope Francis when he comes to Philadelphia in about a month, and you live in a part of South Jersey, you could get a chance to see him in Washington before he comes here.

There's one condition though: you have to live in the 3rd Congressional District, which covers most of Burlington and Ocean Counties and a small slice of Camden County.

Freshman Republican Tom MacArthur came up with an idea.

"We got, as did other members of Congress, 50 tickets for the West Lawn event," he explains. "And it just seemed like the lottery was a fair, sort of fun way to distribute them."

But you don't have to be a registered voter. And if you are, your party doesn't matter here.

MacArthur plans to host a luncheon in his office for those selected to attend the event on September 24th, two days before Pope Francis comes to town.

You have until the 14th to register on MacArthur's website. Twenty-five pairs of tickets will be awarded the following day.

As for transportation, you're on your own.
