Local Business Group Trying To Lure PayPal To Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- When North Carolina passed it's discriminatory bathroom law recently, PayPal pulled its plans to build a new facility in Charlotte. That plant would have created 400 new jobs. Now, a Philadelphia business hub is urging PayPal to relocate here.
Select Greater Philadelphia has issued an open letter to PayPal, talking up the region's assets, including quality of life and financial services in the tri-state area. Executive Director Matt Cabrey says the area also has a large millenial population.
"That younger highly skilled talent of millenials really can add value to an organization like PayPal," he said, "because they're thinking about the user interface, they're thinking about the talent it takes to build a more friendly and computer focused workforce."
Cabrey says in contrast to North Carolina's gender discrimination law, this region is the birthplace of freedom. He says Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware have all passed laws prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identification.
