Local Blogger Inspires Others To Step Outside Their Comfort Zones And 'Get Gutsy'
By Kristina Dougherty
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Stepping outside of your comfort zone is easier said than done, but one local blogger took the leap, and she is inspiring others to do the same.
Jessica Lawlor launched her Get Gutsy blog a little over two years ago, and with more than 122,000 page views and an average of 6,000+ unique visitors per month, her followers can see she truly emulates the title.
"A couple of years ago, I was in a very different place. Thirty pounds heavier, confused about the future, unclear about my goals and uncomfortable in my own skin; I felt lost. I stumbled upon the quote, 'Life begins at the end of your comfort zone' browsing on Pinterest one day and decided to make that my new life mantra."
That she did. Soon, she began documenting her "gutsy" journey.
"The blog is about stepping outside your comfort zone, getting comfortable with being uncomfortable, making moves, exploring new opportunities and embracing adventure all on your own terms."
And speaking of stepping outside your comfort zone, she recently shared with her followers some of the biggest issues she is dealing with.
"The post outlines things I'm struggling with, from saying 'no' more, to finding balance when it comes to healthy living." She continues,"The post was therapeutic to write, but wasn't easy to publish. After all, I put my secret and not-so-secret problems and insecurities out on the line, but I always aim to be honest with the community, so it felt important to share my flaws. I was pleasantly surprised by the reaction to the post. It turned out so many could relate (the post has more than 50 comments!) and began a really interesting discussion about struggles and what we share online."
She hopes those who follow her blog also find the courage to step outside the box. "I hope they'll recognize that it's never too late to create a new goal or tackle a new dream. Most of all, I hope members of the Get Gutsy community will take pride in their accomplishments and gain confidence to do whatever it is they want to do in life."
According to Jessica, launching her blog has been the single best thing she's done for both her personal and professional life.
"When I started blogging a few years back, I had no idea how much it would impact every aspect of my life, but especially so when it came to developing my career as a public relations professional and freelance writer. Having my own website and blog has served as a digital introduction to me and my work and has opened the door to job opportunities, writing gigs, speaking engagements and freelance work."
"Blogging has forever changed me. I have met some of my best friends through my blog and have had the opportunity to meet and interact with people all around the world. I feel incredibly grateful for the Get Gutsy community. They lift me up, keep me accountable and motivate me to reach my goals."
Along with her blog, Jessica also sends out an e-newsletter to more than 650 people in her Get Gutsy community.
