Local 9/11 Remembrance Events

It's hard to believe that the tragic events of 9/11 happened ten years ago. Now, gather with the community to remember those who lost their lives at these area commemorative events.

In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, the Penn Museum is exhibiting 15 meaningful artifacts for visitors to reflect on. Items include eyeglasses and computer keyboards, among others.

Haddonfield Memorial High School 9/11 Remembrance Day

Haddonfield Memorial High School has organized a day of remembrance for its students in commemoration of 9/11. About 35 firefighters, elected officials, reporters and everyday people will be speaking to a history class about 9/11. Students will be placing memorial flags on the school's lawn, and there will be a moment of silence. The day also includes bagpipers, air horn blasts and additional speakers.

Brooklawn broke ground on its new 9/11 memorial and monument in July, and on Sept. 11th--the 10th anniversary of the event--the town will unveil both items during a day of 9/11 remembrance. The day will begin with the ringing of the bells at the times when the WTC towers and the pentagon were attacked, and when Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania. There will be commemorative events all day long, ending with a candlelight vigil.

Travis Manion Foundation 9-11 Heroes Run

The Travis Manion Foundation is teaming up with GM and Chevrolet to bring this year's 5K runs to more than two dozen cities across the country to honor military, police, firefighters, and first responders killed in the line of duty. The organization is named for Doylestown's Travis Manion, a US Marine who was killed in Iraq four years ago. Michael Smerconish will participate in the Doylestown run, and 98.1 WOGL's Frank Lewis and Dom Giordano will broadcast from the September 11 race in Collingswood, New Jersey.

Local 22 will celebrate Firefighter Recognition Day and remember 9/11 with a memorial and plaque dedication.

9/11 Concert For Change & ChurchFest

The Concert for Change will focus on shedding positive light on the tragedy of 9/11 and on creating a tight-knit, supportive community. The church's Light Praise Band will perform, featuring local musicians including Pat Burke, Tom Stone, Zack Stone, Lee Gordon, Tim Mitchell, Deb Santo, Rachel Brown and music director Scott Santo. There will be moments reflecting on the anniversary of the attacks of 9/11. Additionally, the Church will host ChurchFest, a day of free food, music, games and crafts. All proceeds from the event benefit the United Methodist Church's Imagine No Malaria campaign. In case of rain, the event will take place in the church sanctuary.

Join the Brandywine Area Community Choir for a remembrance concert of the events of September 11, 2001. The group will perform "America: A Pilgrim's Prayer, A Patriot's Dream," which pays special tribute to service veterans and community volunteers. Donations benefit local fire and rescue groups.

In conjunction with Faulkner West Chester's Police Cruise Night Auto Show, this 9/11 ceremony includes bugle corps, bagpipes, speakers and artifacts from the WTC site. Additionally, the Police Cruise Night is billed as the world's largest exhibit of police cars, with over 400 exhibits and a crowd that tops 5000 people.

9/11 Church Service of Remembrance

Bethany United Church of Christ will be holding a special service on Sunday, September 11 to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001. Joining the members and friends of Bethany will be the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Rising Sun Post #2819 who will present colors and will play taps at the close of the service.

Commemorate 9/11 in Bensalem with 911 regulation flags on display in the park. The Grammy Award-winning Love Tabernacle choir will sing patriotic hymns and a video produced by Bensalem Community Television will play.

9/11 Commemoration at the National Constitution Center

Gather with city and religious leaders at the Constitution Center to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the tragic September 11th attacks. In addition to dramatic readings and a 20 minute long interactive program running throughout the day, there will be a prayer gathering and public commemoration on Independence Mall.

Firefighters, police officers, city officials, veterans, and others will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 "Attack on America." This event will include a march from The Fireman's Hall Museum to the Betsy Ross House. A program of commemoration will take place with guest speakers, a special flag folding ceremony, playing of Taps, and a bell tolling in memorial for fallen fire fighters.

9/11 Community Commemoration
Linwood Heights United Methodist Church

The Linwood Heights United Methodist Church is inviting the whole community, including local fire fighters and police officers and their families, to join them for this anniversary and recognition service. Fire, police and military personnel are invited to wear their uniforms in honor of those who lost their lives in service. A community luncheon will be held following the service in the church's social hall. And in keeping with the 9/11 National Moment Of Remembrance, the church bell will be rung at 1 p.m. as a signal to the community to stop and remember with one minute of silent remembrance.
