Living Eco-Friendly With Your Pet
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Living green and eco-friendly are very important these days. There are ways to maintain this healthier lifestyle with your pet too.
Become a "green-conscious" consumer. Look for environmentally friendly pet products, ones that ultimately don't have a negative effect on the environment. Look for safe pet toys that are biodegradable. You can also find collars and leashes made from hemp, a strong natural organic fiber derived from plants, which are 100% biodegradable and pesticide free, as well as hypoallergenic, and are made for both dogs and cats.
As you clean up after your pet, use environmentally safe non-toxic cleaning products that are actually safer to use than harsh chemical alternatives.
Purchase a higher quality dog food with less fillers and more protein. This is extremely important to do anyway -- it not only benefits your dog's health, but the environment too, with less waste.
And finally, always pick up after your dog and try to use biodegradable bags. If that's not possible, make sure to recycle older bags by reusing them for this purpose.
