Liquor Store Privatization Supporter Decides Against Congressional Run

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) - Efforts to privatize liquor sales in Pennsylvania got a boost yesterday when the legislature's prime supporter of the idea announced he's not going to run for Congress.
Several news organizations, including the Associated Press, reported on Friday that Allegheny County Republican Mike Turzai, the state House majority leader, had told party leaders he would run for Congress. Even if he had kept his state House leadership post, a Congressional run would have almost certainly limited Turzai's ability to round up votes for his issues, including the liquor privatization bill he has sponsored.
But, on Tuesday, Turzai announced he's decided against a run for Congress and expressed confidence that his privatization legislation will get through, "I think it's an item the electorate wants and that's true for Republicans, Democrats, Independents."
Turzai says family concerns factored heavily in his decision not to run for Congress.
